Sealing membranes approved for potable water reservoirs

Around the world, safe storage of potable water is a top priority. Reservoirs for potable water frequently are built of concrete and cracks and other damage result in the loss of precious water.

Potable water storage facilities have to meet the strictest quality standards, in particular with regard to hygiene. Sealing with ELBE Natural Surface sealing membranes ensures long-lasting waterproofing for many years to come.

Water reservoirs - whether new constructions or refurbished structures - can be realised within a very short time, which is another advantage in comparison to other sealing solutions.

Installation

Before installing a potable-water approved sealing membrane, check and decide how the work is to be carried out (treatment of substrate, protection measures, sealing methods, drainage).

It is very important that the sealing membrane meets the requirements defined by potable water storage standards.

The choice of sealing membrane must be adequate to the purpose of the application, such as good weldability, high UV stability and high resistance against hydrostatic puncture, good chemical resistance (e.g. against salts and acids) good ageing properties and sufficient resistance against other environmental influences.

Apart from sealing membranes you also need drainage measures (for liquids and gases) and protection for the sealing membrane. This might be a synthetic material, mineral protection layer or other system. The incline of the structure must be stable. The top of the system has to be reinforced and the radius between floor and incline must be sufficient to prevent the sealing membrane from being subjected to tensile stress.
